Please understand this is just an estimate and not a guarantee, as actual recovery times vary greatly between patients and depends on various factors including your:
Condition, its nature and severity
Overall health
Treatment goals
Consistency with taking herbal medicines and/or following dietary recommendations
Both podiatrists and physiotherapists can be incredibly helpful in this scenario, but the best choice depends on what's causing your discomfort.
If your pain stems from issues like bunions, plantar fasciitis, or ingrown toenails—things primarily related to the structure and function of your feet—a podiatrist is your go-to. For example, let’s say you've been experiencing persistent heel pain, especially in the mornings when you first step out of bed. This could be a sign of plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot. A podiatrist can assess your condition, recommend appropriate treatments like custom orthotics or stretching exercises, and provide ongoing care to help you find relief.
However, if your pain is due to muscle strains, ligament sprains, or issues with your gait or posture, a physiotherapist may be a better choice. For example, if you’ve been experiencing achy knees and shin splints during your runs, this could indicate muscle imbalances or poor biomechanics. A physiotherapist can assess your movement patterns, identify areas of weakness or tightness, and design a tailored exercise program to address these issues, ultimately helping you run more efficiently and pain free.
If you’re not sure, you can always book a free 15 minute consultation with one of our iSpine professionals and we’ll be able to guide you from there.
Certainly, our podiatrists are qualified to prescribe and fit orthotics for our patients.
We begin with a careful assessment of your feet, gait and posture. We take into account any symptoms or concerns you have to make a diagnosis of your condition(s) and support needs. If orthotics are necessary, we take measurements of your feet and send these off to our custom orthotics producer. Finally, we fit the orthotics and make sure to follow-up with you to ensure their continued effectiveness.
Yes, we sell a range of pre-made orthotics which can be cut and adjusted to your needs. We also send orders for custom orthotics to an off-site producer. This process takes around 2 weeks.
Yes, our podiatrists have years of experience working with sportspersons and injuries, including problems such as:
Running-related conditions like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or runner’s knee
“Turf toe” in football players - An injury of the big toe, prevalent in football when playing on artificial turf.
Morton's Neuroma in soccer players or cyclists - A painful condition affecting the nerves between the toes, often caused by compression and commonly experienced by athletes who wear narrow footwear
Our podiatrists will firstly work to reduce strain and inflammation, followed by physical therapy to improve your flexibility, strength, and balance. We will recommend footwear to minimise the risk of injury and enhance performance and, if appropriate, prescribe and fit orthotics. We may also suggest brace, splints or taping.
Yes, many of our clients have diabetes and we have experience caring for their specific needs.
Our podiatrists perform regular comprehensive foot screenings to assess sensation, circulation, and skin integrity, identifying potential problems early on.
We provide education on footwear selection, proper foot hygiene and self-care practices to help prevent injuries and complications. Our podiatrists may also prescribe custom orthotics or diabetic shoes to alleviate pressure points and reduce the risk of ulcers.
In cases where ulcers or infections develop, our podiatrists are skilled in wound care including debridement (removal of dead or infected tissue), moist wound dressings, topical medications and offloading (footwear, orthotics or casts which help redistribute pressure away from the wound site). By facilitating proper wound healing, we lower the chances of further complications.
Note: Diabetic foot care may be covered by an Enhanced Patient Care (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM).
Yes, call us now, or book online, and we’ll see you at the earliest availability.
Depending on the severity of the ingrown toenail, we may perform a procedure called a partial nail avulsion where we carefully remove the portion of the nail that's ingrown. This can often be done in the office under local anaesthesia, providing immediate relief from discomfort.
Additionally, our podiatrists will offer advice on proper nail care techniques to help prevent future ingrown nails.
Yes, many of our podiatry patients are older persons and we are experienced with recognising and addressing the specific foot care needs that arise with age.
One significant difference is the consideration of conditions such as limited circulation and arthritis. Our podiatrists tailor their treatments to provide gentle care to alleviate discomfort and promote mobility.
Our podiatrists work closely with elderly patients to educate and instruct them on proper foot hygiene and care practices, and provide guidance on footwear selection. A key issue in this demographic is limited mobility, so where an individual is not able to care for their own feet effectively, we can instruct their carer or provide the regular care ourselves.
As an older person, our podiatry service may be covered in your Home Care Plan.
Yes, our podiatrists are skilled and experienced in providing pre and post-natal foot care.
Pregnancy can result in changes in foot structure and function due to weight gain, hormonal shifts, and swelling. Our podiatrists provide treatment and guidance to alleviate discomfort and prevent issues such as plantar fasciitis or excessive pronation.
Postnatal treatments are designed to promote recovery, strengthen weakened muscles, and address any lingering issues such as postpartum edema (swelling) or heel pain.
Additionally, our podiatrists provide guidance on shoe selection, orthotic support, and foot exercises that can help to manage common foot problems both during and after pregnancy.
This depends on your child’s condition. Please contact us for a free consultation.
If you have concerns about your child’s foot development, including gait abnormalities such as toe walking, in-toeing or out-toeing and structural issues like flat feet or toe deformities, we recommend you bring your child in for an assessment.
If your child is complaining about pain or discomfort when they walk or run, or has experienced an injury, we would love to help them relieve pain and restore full functionality.
Our podiatrists will tailor our treatments to your child’s age and condition, using gentle techniques and communicating in simple language throughout the process. We will also provide guidance on proper foot hygiene, footwear, orthotics if necessary, and injury prevention strategies.
